The Greek word "flocos" means pile, namely the thickness from each fluffy woolen yarn that it is comprised of. Although in its primary stages each strand of the yarn that has been skillfully woven on a hand or machine loom is not pliable and light, the softness of this material unwinds by way of a very demanding finishing process.
Before the weaving process of the Flokati can begin each single yarn is thoroughly cleaned and spun so as to assure the proper result. Then, reels of these pure woolen yarns are wound onto warp beams, which are then tied onto the looms.
After the meticulous weaving process of these pre-cut shag strand yarns and the interweaving or felting process, they are then carefully and repetitively placed in vats under the spinning currents of natural waterfalls for up to 18 hours. It is precisely at this stagethat the Flokati acquires its fluffy consistency and quality that lasts up to thirty years, something that "Flokati Factory" can proudly guarantee.
